New McQuay R-410A rooftop systems from 30 to 140 tons meet 2010 efficiency standards

MINNEAPOLIS—McQuay now offers the broadest range of large R-410A rooftops in the industry with capacities from 30 to 140 tons. All of the units are available with high efficiencies that exceed ASHRAE 90.1-2010 requirements, which help reduce operating costs. The lower energy consumption also makes McQuay rooftop systems excellent selections for sustainable buildings and LEED^®-certified projects. 

“McQuay rooftop systems that use R-410A protect both the owner’s investment and the environment over a 20- to 30-year operating life expectancy,” said Skip Ernst, marketing manager for Applied Air Products at McQuay. “R-410A is an HFC refrigerant which has no ozone depletion potential and faces no mandated phase-out date.” According to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency requirements, R-22 cannot be used in new equipment as of 2010 and cannot be manufactured or imported as of 2020.   

“In addition to the ownership and environmental benefits, pricing for the McQuay R-410A rooftop systems is competitive with comparable units using R-22 refrigerant,” said Ernst. “Customers won’t have to pay a penalty on projects requiring HFC refrigerants.”

McQuay rooftop systems include Maverick II™ commercial packaged rooftop systems (30 to 50 tons) and model RPS and RDT applied packaged rooftop systems (50 to 140 tons).

McQuay rooftop systems with R-410A refrigerant use all-aluminum, microchannel condensers, which help extend the product life. The units are more robust than traditional designs and the all-aluminum construction eliminates galvanic corrosion, making them more resistant to corrosion in any environment, including seacoast applications.

In addition, these units help to reduce service costs because the refrigerant has no significant “glide.” If a leak occurs, only the lost refrigerant must be replaced.
